Supported Volunteering

What is Supported Volunteering?

Our supported volunteering project is for anyone who would like to volunteer but needs a little extra support in getting started. This could be because you:

  • Lack confidence
  • Have a disability
  • Have learning difficulties
  • Are experiencing health problems
  • Are recovering from addictions
  • Have been unemployed for a long time
  • Are an ex-offender
  • Just feel you need support.

Whatever the reason we will help you to look at your volunteering options and put together a package of support that suits you.

You can contact us directly to find out more or you can be referred by a friend or family member or through an organisation. Once we have received your referral we will contact you to arrange to meet up with you for an informal chat so we can find out more about you. We will then tell you what the project can offer you and agree how we can help you and begin to discuss volunteering options to find the right one for you.

Can you make a difference as a Volunteer Mentor on the supported volunteering project?

Could you help someone develop the confidence and skills to become a volunteer? Are you caring, supportive and enjoy working with people?

We are looking for people to train as mentors for the supported volunteering project. As a mentor you will be supporting people who want to volunteer but need some help to develop the skills and confidence to be able to do this. You might help them with form filling, contacting volunteering opportunities, attending interview, travel training or even go on their first sessions of volunteering to support them until they have the confidence to volunteer independently. You may also help out with mentoring at group activities if this is something that interests you.

If you can commit a few hours a week, can demonstrate empathy and understanding and want to help others then we want to hear from you. We will provide you with the training and support needed in your role and any expenses will be reimbursed.

Are you a charity or local group who needs volunteers?

If you are a local group or charity who needs volunteers to help achieve your aims and would be interested in working with the supported volunteering project then we would love to hear from you too. We can discuss what volunteer roles you are looking to fill and how we can work with you to support you in working with volunteers from the project including any training needs you may have.
