Introducing the HR & Legal Services

HR logoThe HR & Legal Services is a partnership of the four South Yorkshire CVS, Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, and Sheffield. The service provides human resources and legal advice to third sector organisations in South Yorkshire. Access to the service is available by telephoning 0845 231 1313 where you will be able to speak to an advisor for your area.

Practitioners will advise on human resource issues such as:

  • Recruitment and selection
  • Contract of employment
  • Equality and diversity
  • Industrial relations, inc grievance and disciplinary procedures
  • Ending a contract of employment (eg redundancy)
  • Health and safety
  • Developing human resource systems and good practices

And other legal areas such as:

  • Governing documents
  • Charity law
  • Company law
  • Contracting for services

HR & Legal Services has been created to support and strengthen the Third Sector.

The sector is currently vulnerable to increasing legislation in relation to employment law, charity and company law and legal obligations with premises.

If you employ staff or work with volunteers we can:

  • help set up recruitment procedures and contracts or volunteer agreements and ensure you have the necessary human resource policies in place
  • inform you of changes in the law as and when they arise and advise you on personnel issues you may encounter.

For those who have trustees, directors or management committees we can:

  • advise and assist in developing or amending governing documents e.g. constitutions, considering appropriate legal status, and advising your committee on charity and company law
  • help you negotiate a lease, license or tenancy agreement if your group is taking on premises
  • assist with negotiating service level agreements and other forms of contracts.

“We are here to ensure a successful Third Sector, supporting and guiding organisations through the ‘red tape’ they encounter and may not have the capacity to manage. Our aim is to empower organisations to operate efficiently and confidently within the law, and develop best practices wherever possible.”
